Location
/
–8.9667, 30.3667
Greystoke Mahale Lodge, Mahale Mountains National Park, Kigoma Region, Tanzania
NEAREST AIRPORT
Nearest airports: Kigoma Airport (TKQ); Arusha Airport (ARK / ARK is IATA code? Actually Arusha is ARK) — or other small airstrips depending on itinerary.
It’s remote! Typically you fly into either Arusha (for many international itineraries) then connect via charter to a smaller airstrip closer to Lake Tanganyika; or fly via Kigoma. From the airstrip there will usually be a boat (dhow) ride of about 90 minutes down Lake Tanganyika to reach the lodge.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
June - September are the best months
During these months the weather is drier, chimps are more accessible (often lower in the mountains), trails are easier, lake water is calmer & clearer for kayaking/swimming, fewer heavy rains messing up travel logistics. In contrast, the period mid‑March to early June is the wet season / maintenance closure
